What drives the rate
Beyond bookkeeping: month-end close, management accounts, accruals and prepayments, cash-flow forecasting, and preparing the pack your CPA or tax preparer works from. What separates a strong hire from an adequate one: They explain what the numbers MEAN — why margin moved, which cost line is drifting — rather than just producing statements. The distinction from a bookkeeper is interpretation, and it is the whole reason to pay the difference. AI-durability of the role: medium — parts of the workflow are automating; the judgment layer is not. Medium-low. Categorisation and reconciliation automate fast; judgement, accruals and explaining a variance to a business owner do not.
